We’ve (temporarily?) put a halt on the weekly roundup videos, so we can focus more on the website. With that in mind, this week’s challenge is to watch a movie in which the plot focuses on/or primarily features the ending of something.
Where do we begin, with a movie challenge about endings? Let’s look at some subgenres to get you started:
Post-Apocalyptic/End of the World Films e.g. The Omega Man (1971), based on the novel *I Am Legend* by Richard Matheson, this film stars Charlton Heston as one of the last human survivors after a biological war
Horror movies that feature the “final girl” e.g. Halloween (1978), features Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) as the iconic final girl facing Michael Myers
The final movie in a franchise/series e.g. **Avengers: Endgame** (2019), The epic conclusion to the Infinity Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Movies about the end of an era e.g. **The Last Picture Show** (1971), The closing of a small-town movie theater symbolizes the end of youthful innocence and a bygone era
A particular character’s journey coming to an end e.g. **Logan** (2017) – A brutal, emotional send-off for Wolverine, marking the end of his story.
Features “End” or a variation of the word in the title e.g. **End of Watch** (2012), A gritty cop drama following the lives of two officers as they patrol the streets of L.A.
Finally there are movies about the ending of a relationship e.g. Marriage Story (2019) in which A stage director and an actress struggle through a grueling, coast-to-coast divorce.
Below we’ve added a bunch of other suggestions/recommendations for movies that would count for the challenge. Let us know what you’ve watched, what you’re thinking of watching, or whether you’ve got any recommendations to pass to your fellow CineChums.
Good luck!
