Week 7

"Alternate" romance

Happy Valentine's my CineChums. Surprisingly we’ve never done a straight forward romance challenge - and those of you that have been with us for a while, know it’s very rare we do anything straight forward.

So for this week, your fallback safety net is to watch a romantic comedy/drama. There’s an abundance of those, so you don’t need any suggestions/ideas on where to start there.

But the actual challenge this week, is to watch an alternate romance movie, a movie that doesn’t just feature a generic paint by the numbers romance plot.

The video below covers a few suggestions, but to save you a click, we’re talking about movies like Tony Scott’s True Romance (1993), which is an adrenaline-fueled tale of love, crime, and redemption from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. Or Yorgos Lanthimos’ strange tale: The Lobster (2015), a dystopian satire where single people must find a partner within 45 days or be transformed into an animal!
