Last week we watched a movie connected to another movie, this week, watch a movie connected to a TV show
1973’s Westworld and it’s sequel Futureworld were the basis of the 2016 HBO show Westworld. Before Sarah Michelle Geller, Kristy Swanson was Buffy the Vampire slayer in the 1992 movie. Ron Howard’s excellent comedy Parenthood, spawned 2 separate television series, one in 1990 and one in 2010. The year after it was released, Amy Heckerling’s iconic Clueless starring Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz, continued in television form, and Bong Joon Ho’s excellent Snowpiercer has been adapted into a Netflix series, currently 3 seasons down.
Then we’ve got movies that were based on a TV series: 1987’s Dragnet starring Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks was based on the 1967 series of the same name. The Brady Bunch movie released in 1995, based on the 70’s show took the genius concept of having the family with their 70s fashion sense and place them in a contemporary 90’s setting. 1993’s The Fugitive, which spawned it’s own spin off US Marshalls, was based on the 1960s TV series of the same name. Finally, maybe you haven’t seen the recent Mission Impossible or Equalizer sequels, based on their 1966 and 1985 series, respectively.
Of course though the most fun aspect of these challenges is seeing the genius, and sometimes tenuous, connections you’ve made just to watch a certain movie. So to branch away from the obvious, some other ideas include: A movie with a television based plot or key scene, contains tv or television in the title, a movie starring an actor who’s most known for their television rolls, or a feature length documentary on television
These movies are mentioned in the video as potential suggestions for the challenge.
