Revenge, Payback or Vengeance

This week, we've got a movie challenge that's sure to get your adrenaline pumping and your revenge fantasies running wild. Our CineChum, DaveRackliff, has suggested a theme that'll leave you on the edge of your seat – it's Revenge Week! So, grab your popcorn, dim the lights, and prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions as we explore the cinematic world of payback and vengeance.

For those with a taste for the extreme and the psychologically disturbing, consider diving into Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilolgy. "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance", "Old Boy" and "Lady Vengeance" are 3 unconnected movies by director Park Chan-wook, with each film dealing with the themes of revenge, ethics, violence and salvation.

Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" series about a bride seeking revenge after being left for dead, Tony Scott’s "Man on Fire" about a bodyguard seeking revenge after they kidnapped his charge a 9 year old girl, and "Taken" starring Liam Neeson as a former green beret and cia operative tracking down his daughter after she’s kidnapped are just a couple of highly rated action based revenge movies for you action fans out there.

For those of you looking for a tamer revenge experience consider "The Count of Monte Cristo," a swashbuckling adventure of betrayal and vengeance, based on Alexandre Dumas' novel. Rob Reiner's "The Princess Bride" is a classic comedic fairy tale adventure following Westley's quest for true love but also featuring Inigo Montoya’s quest for revenge over the murder of his father. Finally "The Big Heat" directed by Fritz Lang is a film noir featuring Glenn Ford as a police detective seeking revenge for the death of his wife.

So, whether you're into intense action, psychological thrillers, or classic tales of revenge, there's a movie for everyone this Revenge Week. Hopefully you’ve got one on your watchlist, and this challenge doesn’t just add more to it!
